As a DNACA Volunteer, you are truly a VIP!
As a local non-profit organization, we are people powered! If you are interested in volunteering for DNACA, please read through our programs below. Your contribution can be a one-time offering, or an ongoing part of our support structure. You can be involved in just one program that you’re excited about, or many of our projects. Also, if you have a special skill set that you think could benefit us, please let us know! We always welcome our community to join our mission.
DNACA has many different programs that serve to increase and enhance the arts in our community. While our Performance Series is our most visible program, some of our other programs are actually the most impactful. Please read more below.
Our annual performance Series brings world class performing artists from around the globe to Del Norte County. Our chosen artists are accomplished and celebrated in their genres, and have included Grammy winners, and those who hold other titles of excellence. Our shows have included Jazz, World music, Folk, Flamenco, Classical, Celtic, African, Taiko, and more! This program typically features 5 different shows, held between October and May. The purpose of this program is to make world class performances accessible to everyone in our community.
-Volunteer opportunities for this program include assisting at the performance, distributing posters prior to the event, marketing assistance, and raffle management, and can be a one-time, or all-shows commitment (up to 5 times per season).
Our Art in Public Places (AIPP) program presents art exhibits that promote local artists of all cultural backgrounds and arts media by displaying their works in a prominent public place, to enhance arts awareness of the community. We have two permanent exhibit locations: the Del Norte Courthouse and Del Norte Regional Airport.
-Volunteer opportunities for AIPP include assisting with art hanging (6 times per year total), and marketing assistance.
Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a national recitation competition for high school students across the US, and Puerto Rico. DNACA has hosted this program for the past 7 years in Del Norte County. Each year the winner advances to the State competition in Sacramento. We have been proud and excited to send not only the winner from our local highschools, but also runners up. They have been able to travel to Sacramento with chaperones from our school district, and enjoy a rich educational experience over the course of several days.
-POL consists of 3 local competitions, and volunteer opportunities include judging at the competitions, marketing assistance, fundraising, and supporting the program through “Poetry Week” in various activities. This program runs in January and early February.
DNACA hosts Community Drum Circles with local artist Mambo Hernandez. The drum circles are dynamic and fully interactive, and no prior experience is necessary.
-Volunteer opportunities for this program include helping set up & tear down at events, and marketing assistance. Circles meet 4-6 times per year.
Our Sound Committee provides the technical aspect of our shows. While these are specialized skills, we also need assistance with the “roadie” aspect of the sound crew as well. Do you have an interest in helping with the backstage aspects of running a show? If so, this may be the committee for you! Sound Committee meets as needed to support upcoming shows.
Our Art in Education (AIE) program partners with Del Norte County Office of Education and DNUSD to bring teaching artists into the classrooms of Del Norte County schools.
This program is primarily facilitated within the school district. If you are a teaching artist, please reach out to discuss opportunities.
-Volunteer opportunities for AIE include networking and marketing assistance.
Redwood Parks Conservancy hosts their Artist In Residency program locally. DNACA helps support this program by helping select qualified applicants from the vast pool of submissions.
-Volunteer opportunities for this program include joining the selection committee to help select artists. This commitment is twice yearly, and involves reviewing submissions from dozens of artists, then selecting a winner through a series of interviews.
DNACA is also involved with many community events. From the City Summer Concerts, The Kamome Festival, and many others, we have ongoing opportunities to help support the Arts in Del Norte County. Most of these events are one-time events, and the volunteer tasks would vary, but include set up, clean up, station managers, publicity and marketing, and more.
Waipuna's Hawaiian music has been widely appreciated and enjoyed by audiences around the world! This is a show not to be missed!
