Art in Public Places

Mission Statement: The goal of this program is to present art exhibits that promote local artists and imported artists of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and all arts media by displaying their works in a prominent public place in order to enhance the arts awareness of the community.

As a part of our Art in Public Places (AIPP) program, DNACA holds a Juried Multimedia Show each November where artists are invited to enter work created in the past two years. A reception for the juried show honoring the artists is held each January at the courthouse. Then, rotating Solo Exhibitions are given to the various artists who were juried into November's Juried Show, taking place throughout the year at the Del Norte Superior Court Building on H St and, beginning January 2019, the new passenger terminal at Del Norte County Regional Airport within CEC/Jack McNamara Field.

We hold an Art from the Inside show annually, consisting of artwork created by students at Pelican Bay State Prison in the visual arts workshops organized by the William James Association as a part of the Arts in Corrections program, a partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the California Arts Council.

Also occuring annually is the Art by Veterans Show, showcasing artwork created by participants in the visual arts and creative writing classes of our Arts for Veterans program, our branch of the California Art Council's Veterans in the Arts (VIA)

Since 2002, DNACA has partnered with the 41st Agricultural District to curate a show in the Floral Building for the duration of the Del Norte County Fair. This show has been titled Celebrating the Creative Arts of Older Americans, an exhibit specifically for the seniors of our community. It served as a portion of our Arts for Veterans program for the 2016 and 2017 Fairs, titled Celebrating the Creative Arts of Veterans and Their Families. Each year a reception is held honoring these artists and typically involves live music. Beginning in 2018, the exhibit transitioned to being curated every other year.
