Art in Public Places
Mission Statement: The goal of this program is to present art
exhibits that promote local artists
and imported artists of all ages, cultural backgrounds and all arts media by displaying their works
in a prominent public place, in order to enhance the arts awareness of the community.
DNACA's rotating Art in Public Places exhibits are on display at the Del Norte County Courthouse on H St in Crescent City.
As a part of this program, DNACA holds a Juried Multimedia Show each November where artists are invited to enter work created in the past two years, an Arts in Corrections show each April consisting of artwork created by students at Pelican Bay State Prison in the workshops organized and funded by the William James Association, and rotating one-person shows from various artists who were juried into the show. A reception for the juried show honoring the artists is held each January at the courthouse.
Since 2002, DNACA has partnered with the 41 st Agricultural District to curate a show in the Floral Building for the duration of the Del Norte County Fair annually. This show has been titled "Celebrating the Creative Arts of Older Americans", an exhibit specifically for the seniors of our community, and more recently was dedicated as a portion of our Arts for Veterans program, titled "Celebrating the Creative Arts of Veterans and Their Families". Each year a reception is held honoring those artists and typically involves live music.
